Recent News

Now Hiring

Ok well I have been doing some hiring as of late thanks to my lack of writing and we have a few more writers for the site.  As you can tell Raxepaneg is one of them.  Also Mojo36 and HHHawk are new staff, yet I am still looking for more writers for the Pitstop here.  So if your interested in becoming staff and posting news you catch wind of over the internets, just send me a message and I'll let you in on the next steps.

Apologies and Car Packs

Okay, I would like to start out and apologize to everyone.  I havent been able to update as much as I neeed to these past few weeks.  I just recently was given more hours at work (yay!) so I have even less time now.  But that still no excuse for not updating.  So again, to all of those who visit the Pitstop, I apologize.

Now moving on, there has been a new car pack released since our last news post.  The March Car pack contained 13 new cars for the always awesome low price of 400pts:

  • 1999 Ferrari F50 GT
  • 1989 Ferrari F40 Competizione
  • 2006 Maserati MC12 Corsa
  • 2007 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640
  • 2008 Porsche 911 GT2 (977)
  • 2007 Ferrari 430 Scuderia
  • 2007 #1 Peugeot 207 Super 2000
  • 2008 BMW Motorsport M3 E92
  • 2008 Maserati GranTurismo
  • 2007 Audi S5
  • 2008 Mitsubishi Evolution X GSR
  • 2007 Audi TT Coupe S-Line
  • 1971 BMW Motorsport 3.0 CSL

As usual, I will get some photos and the categories up later today.

The Future of Racing Games?

Cruisin' USA

Is racing gaming on its last lap? That's the question the folks over at next-gen.biz asked the developers of four popular racing titles this week.

next-gen.biz said:

Impossibly shiny cars, breathtaking speed, blue skies and roaring engines: racers were once videogaming’s ultimate expression of realism crossed with escapist fantasy. But while other genres have rapidly evolved, from the thunder and bluster of modern FPSes to the vast scope of RPGs, racers seem stuck in the same old routine of race upon tournament.

Even the biggest sellers don’t seem to be performing as well as they used to: once a perennial fixture at the very top of the UK Christmas chart, Need For Speed managed only fifth place as 2007 turned to 2008. Buried in the blizzard of last year’s big releases, Project Gotham Racing 4 has failed to ignite the same fervor as its predecessors. And can Gran Turismo’s luster really sell PS3 the same way it once did PS1 and PS2?

And yet a few titles are breaking out of the mould, incorporating new ways of presenting races and multiplayer experiences, and hinting at how the genre can reinvent itself. To see how they view their place in videogaming and what challenges lie ahead, we went karting with Nigel Kershaw, game director at MotorStorm maker Evolution Studios, Gareth Wilson and Gerard Talbot, lead designers on the Project Gotham series at Bizarre Creations, Guy Wilday, studio director at Sega Racing Studio, and Gavin Raeburn, executive producer on Codemasters’ Dirt and the forthcoming Race Driver: Grid.

Mario Kart Wii Details

Yeah, it's not Forza related but how much Forza news can there be in a week, let alone a month.  At least it's game related in the racing genre.  IGN got the chance during GDC to demo Mario Kart Wii for an hour.  As can be seen from some of the packaging images out there, Mario Kart Wii will come packed with the steering wheel shell that holds the Wii Remote.  IGN made note that it's similar to the Wii Zapper in that all it does is hold the controller.  Although You are not forced to use the wheel as Mario Kart Wii will support various different forms of control.  You can use the Wheel, Wiimote (although why not just use the wheel if your going to use the remote by itself?), Wiimote with Nunchuck, the Classic Controller, or you can use your old Gamecube controllers.  IGN also revealed that the game will make note of what control scheme you are using when it saves your best times to let everyone know which way you were driving.  While using the wheel IGN said that there was a learning curve thanks to trying to find your dead zones.

Mario Kart Wii has the classic Grand Prix mode and still features the 3 different kart classes, 50cc, 100cc, 150cc.  One of the newest additions to Mario Kart this year are the Bikes and each character starts out with 3 bikes and 3 karts.  They also bumped up the amount of opponents to 11.  There is also a new trick system added where at the top of your jump you can have characters pull of various different trick animations.  The game includes 32 tracks with 16 of them being from the old-school.  You can expect Mario Kart Wii to hit stores some time this spring.

Reminder: Knight Rider Premiers Tonight!

Knight Rider returns tonight in a new 2 hour movie featuring the brand new Ford Mustang GT500KR as KITT.  The movie will air at 9/8c and star Justin Bruening as Mike Tracer, the new driver of the Knight Industries Two Thousand.  Mr. Knight himself will be making an appearance in the movie as David Hasselhoff will reprise his role as Michael Knight.  For those of us who are wondering how the movie is going to explain the 20 some year gap:

Sarah Graiman is a 24-year old Ph.D candidate at Stanford University, following in her genius father Charles' (Davison) footsteps. But when men attempt to abduct her, Sarah receives a mysterious call from KITT warning her that he's a creation of Charles, who also invented the first KITT 25 years ago -- and that her father is in serious danger.

Sarah and KITT track down her best friend from childhood, Mike Tracer (Bruening), a 23-year-old ex-Army Ranger, whom Sarah hasn't seen since he left home at 18. Having served in Iraq, Mike is now jaded and lost and initially resistant. Eventually he agrees to help Sarah and the two set out to discover who's behind the attempt to procure KITT and find Charles. Along the way, Carrie Rivai (Poitier) plays the agile yet tough FBI agent who has a long-standing friendship with Charles and Sarah. Due to those ties, she is brought into the mix to help in the search. - nbc.com

Also for those of us who live in the good old US, there is a Car Giveaway that will be taking place during the movie.  If you answer four show related questions you could have the chance to win a Ford Mustang GT500KR like KITT, a Ford Edge, Fusion, or Focus.  Of course you have to be 18 or over to participate which means no problems for me.  For more details: Knight Rider Ford Giveaway

So who else is excited for the new movie?  I hope that the movie turns out to be worthwhile and make us look forward to the new series this fall.

DLC Video

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/28616.html

Untill I can figure out if we can embed videos, just click the link above to see video of the new cars coming this friday.  If you can't guess where they are racing from the video, it is the famous Road America.  I see a couple duplicate cars in there (another Gallardo? FXX?, why not just add a body part to te enzo to make your own FXX?) and that makes me kinda sad BUT not sad enough to not buy this pack tomorrow.  Plus I dont think all 11 cars were shown in the video so if I am right, expect some suprises tomorrow.

More DLC heading down the track

Expect some more DLC coming our way this friday, December 7th.  During the Weekly Pitpass at the Official Forza site, it was revealed that they are just about ready to release the next wave of content for Forza 2.  There are some high-end exotics coming as well as a classic rally car and even one of the most-requested muscle cars from GM made it into the 11-car line-up. -Pitpass  There will also be one track that you can d/l and they have made clear that the track is NOT Fujimi Kaido.

The total cost for everything is only a measily... wait for it... 500 points.  400 for the 11 cars and 100 for the track.  You can even buy the track seperate from the cars or vice versa.  Expect a video to showcase the news cars this week from the Pitpass and when that information is available, we'll bring the news here.

For right now, this is the only image they have released:

Apologies

I apologize for the lack of updates but with college life ending real soon it has been very time consuming as of late.  For those that somehow don't know, Turn 10 released the Twin-Motegi race track with 4 different routes for the low low low price of 400 microsoft points on October 26th.  I havent d/led it yet but to those that have, what do you think of the pack?

in other news, I we here at the pitstop have the ability to add different games to the photo lists so I was wondering what games you would like to see added?  We could add games like GT4, PGR3, PGR4, etc... that have photofeatures.  So what do you, the loyal members of the pitstop, think about adding new games?
